Since I made two trips out west and I love westerns I thought this might be fun. I look forward to YOUR favorites as
well.

from your list, it has to be High Noon - the good guy rides off with Grace Kelly.
But my favorite western of all time is The Long Riders with the Keach bros as the James bros, Carradine bros as the Younger bros., Quaid bros. as the Miller bros., and the Guest brothers as the Ford brothers. Music by Ry Cooder.

From your list, Tombstone. As authentic as the legend gets. Personal favorites: Quigley Down Under (Western Australia?), Josey Wales, Little Big Man, and the
Unforgiven. Best Duke: The Shootist. Tom Selleck as best cowboy. Don

Yup High Noon is tough to beat; so is Shane; but I'm surprised that The Magnificent Seven didn't make the list.

Of the list, High Noon. Always liked The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence, though. And what about The Magnificent Seven, or is that considered a Mexican?

You can only put so many choices into the poll, that's why I wanted your choices too. I love Clint's westerns and have bunch of them, but my list left
out The Wild Bunch, Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid, Silverado, Open Range, and a load of classics.
Put your favorite down so we can compile a good list to watch over the winter.

Thanks for an interesting poll.
Its hard not to pick High Noon as the best western of all time, so I voted for it. Incidentally, the film was not originally intended as western. I don't remember the details but maybe someone more acquainted with the facts can fill us in. Shane made a great impression on me. I knew about the fishing around the Jackson Hole area and the scenery blew me away. I promised myself to make the trip someday; a promise I've kept many times. As for the cast, Alan Ladd was never a great actor, but his part didn't need one. Van Heflin was so-so as usual, but Jack Palance made his debut as the great bad guy of his time. A somewhat cult film which gets shown on TV now and then is the "Culpepper Cattle Company", a realistic tale of a cattle drive. I would rate it better than several of the poll choices.

My first choice has to be Eastwood's 1992 film "Unforgiven".

I vote for "Shane". Jack Palance's performance as the embodiement of snake-eyed evil set the standard. I also like "The Searchers" and
"The Unforgiven" Hard not to like the original "Stagecoach" as well, for it's great black and white photography.
