Requesting rod tapers for RodDNA |
Lead | ||
|
I will be releasing a new version of RodDNA soon and would like to include as many new tapers as
possible for everyone to share so if you have any tapers you would like to submit, please email them to tapers@highsierrarods.com.
Any format is ok, just either copy and paste them into an email or attach the taper file, in any format.
Even if your taper exists in the current RodDNA database, it might be slightly different and should be
included.
Also, please include any ancillary information such as:
guide sizes and spacing,
tip top and ferrules types and sizes,
color of wraps, tipping etc.
style and size of grip,
type of reel seat and wood insert,
etc.
Alternatively, you could enter them in RodDNA and submit them from there directly.
Also I would like to thank all who have already submitted tapes.
Please email me with any questions.
Regards,
--Larry

Larry,
Have you already pulled the tapers from this site and here: http://www.rodbuildingforum.com/index.php?showforum=12 In other words, is it redundant for folks to send you tapers that appear in these places? Thanks. Jim. |

Steve be careful offering your tapers publicly. Zhus rod company could soon be producing rods with your name on them. After the fiasco I've seen AJ Thramer
go through I would burn my shop down before I'd publish a taper.

Personally, I don't worry about the Chinese rod makers. If they put my name on a rod, I would definitely be upset and would try to get it removed.
Those who buy Chinese rods would probably not buy a quality bamboo rod from any of us, at least initially. I have seen quite a few for repair but I won't touch any of them. They will eventually make quality rods for the money, and will eventually figure out how to put the ferrules on straight, etc. Fortunately, most customers want quality bamboo rods and are willing to wait for one. I just noticed the other day that some Chinese bamboo rod company registered my name (highsierrarods) in China and some other Asian countries. I did complain to the Chinese Internet domain registrar, but they wouldn't do anything. As to tapers in RodDNA, I can certainly try to restrict any users in China from using it by their IP addresses, but they will eventually find a copy from some other country. Please let me know your thoughts on this, as it would not be that difficult to do. For all those who posted tapers, please let me know if you have changed your mind and don't want them included in the next release of RodDNA. Please email me on this email account only: tapers@highsierrarods.com Tight lines, --Larry |

Larry,
You are truly a class act. Thanks for the information and for all your work on RodDNA. It's a great resource and I really appreciate all your hard work to try and make it better. If I come across any appropriate rod tapers that aren't in the database I'll enter them directly and save you the work. Best regards, -John |

Larry; Are you interested in tapers from vintage production rods such as Heddon, Granger & South Bend?
