Cheating a little bit here: I don't have a decent picture of the fish and the reel together, but this Thompson 100 reel, made in San Francisco, is one of
my favorite working reels. Here it is with a Merrick-era Winston.and a couple of nice rainbows I caught with this combo.

SWhitman, Gorgeous fishes and gorgeous tackle! I second your remark to Persaud...I fish all my rods, with the exception of my Speys (which I won't use
until I've learned how to use them properly! I just acquired a 3.75" Dingley (like yours but minus line guide) and it looks and feels mahvellous on my 8.5'/8wt W&M Granger Waterseal. That's the rod shown with the Bull trout on the second page of this
thread.

Not wonderful photos, I don't tend to take many, but I really wanted to join in..
The top reel is a farlow's Regal with an excellent drag that sadly dosn't handle cold weather very well. otherwise I would use it all the time The lower photo is (I think) a young standard grade 2 7/8". Cheers, Tim. |

it was my big fish day
this guy is big and went for the woolly bugger
this one is even bigger - 22" - and I sight-fished him rising on BWOs - size 20.

I'll answer out of turn - those are actually a quite inexpensive Japanese Reel, CAPS Airedale
http://www.navybass.com/catalogue/reel/CAPS/FLY/AIREDALE.htm Buying through a broker, you can get one home for about $90. (don't even try to order directly, there is no one at Navy Bass that can help you) they also make some nicer reels, IMO. Look at this copy of the first St. George http://www.navybass.com/catalogue/reel/CAPS/FLY/SETTER.ClassicST.htm here's the reels list http://www.navybass.com/catalogue/REEL.F.htm#â– CAPS I also like these Kiraku reels http://www.navybass.com/catalogue/reel/KIRAKU/FLY/halcyone99.htm http://www.navybass.com/catalogue/reel/KIRAKU/FLY/fellows.htm

afghantrout, yes those are CAPS Airedale reels and I find the raised pillars to be quite striking. Come payday I am going to order one of the Airdales and also
a silver Setter Classic. There is a wide spool Setter Classic that might be a decent steelhead reel. My judgment is reserved until the goodies arrive in the
mail down the road.
Ron, thanks for posting those links. It is interesting that you choose provide links to my two favorite Kiraku reels. Thank you. I have spent hours on the INternet seeking information on CAPS reels and hopefully my search will be nicely rewarded.
